Katarzyna Pastuszak (Ph.D./Poland) - dancer and artistic director of Amareya Theatre (Gdansk, Poland); curator of the Gdansk Dance Festival (Club ZAK Gdansk, Poland), honourable member of the Gdansk Culture Council. Graduated from Scandinavian Studies (Gdansk University, MA Tracing the Essence of Odin Teatret) and Theatre Studies (Theatre Academy, Warsaw, MA Introduction to Butō). In 2010 she finalised her Ph.D dissertation Hijikata Tatsumi’s Ankoku butō – the Theatre of the body-in-crisis at the Department of Cultural Studies, Gdansk University. She began her dance and theatre education in 1995 and learned from such teachers as Peter Schumann (Bread and Puppet Theatre), Zygmunt Molik (Grotowski Theatre), Eugenio Barba (Odin Teatret), Wojciech Misiuro, Ko Murobushi, Daisuke Yoshimoto, Atsushi Takenouchi, Gekidan Kaitaisha, Ernesto Edivaldo, Horacio Macuacua, Jozef Frucek and Linda Kapetanea, Tao Dance Theatre, Yumiko Yoshioka, Yukio Waguri and others. As dancer and artistic director of Amareya Theatre she has created performances presented at festivals in Poland and abroad: Ophelia_3 (2013, Marseille), The Power of Nature (2013, Norway); Nomadic Woman with Louise Fontain (2012); Dream Regime 2011 (performances in Tokyo with Gekidan Kaitaisha, Morishita Studio); Xenos (2005), Mandala of Life and Death with Atsushi Takenouchi (2005), Ten ku Youran with Daisuke Yoshimoto (2006), Anatomical Theatre – The Mystery of Life and Death with Joan Laage in Sweden (2006-2007), Dream Regime – Theatre for Community in cooperation with Gekidan Kaitaisha (2007-2008), Caravan Project with Ang Gey Pin (2008). Katarzyna Pastuszak conducted workshops in Poland, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Japan. In 2011-2012 Katarzyna Pastuszak participated in the CORNERS of EUROPE cultural and artistic project. She performed and taught workshops at the Redplexus Festival - Préavis de Désordre Urbain in Marseille (France). In October-December 2013 she co-created two premieres for the 10th Anniversary of Amareya – a dance solo called 2 with live music by Joanna Duda and a group performance called Fetish.wtf directed by Dorota Androsz from Teatr Wybrzeze.
