NOMADIC WOMAN is an interdisciplinary performance that combines theatre, movement, live music, video. NOMADIC WOMAN undertakes the subject of women and their inner and outer immigration and the myths that their nomadic lives turn into. The project NOMADIC WOMAN is also a contemporary version of a myth of rebirth and return of the woman to herself and to the world. The core of the project NOMADIC WOMAN is formed by stories of women who have experienced a form of exile, women who were in some way torn from their natural environment, their family, homeland, community and/or from their own body. These women, just like nomads, have lived their life in continuous motion, without a secure and constant place of living, without a sense of belonging and sense of self/worth. Stories of these women will be told by themselves in an attempt to allow them to rediscover their own life thread and hidden aspects of their personal narrative that for a long time was not allowed to emerge to the surface of social life. Stories of nomadic women that appear is the performance are based on their private myths that became part of their own unique culture.

The project NOMADIC WOMAN aims also at discussing the complex subject of exile and immigration and highlights the value which lies in the condition of being „other” and un-fixed. We refer here to the concept of fluid subjectivity as theorised by Rosi Braidotti (nomadic subjects).

NOMADIC WOMAN is performed by a group of interdisciplinary artists including Louise Fontain (Greenland/Norway, storyteller/performer), Katarzyna Pastuszak (Amareya Theatre, performer/dancer), Joanna Duda (musician/composer, Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet, J=J), Dorota Androsz (actress, Wybrzeże Theatre), Agnieszka Kamińska (Amareya Theatre, performer/dancer), Aleksandra Śliwińska (Amareya Theatre, performer/dancer), Anna Kalwajtys (performer), Magdalena Jędra (dancer). The artists will be accompanied by Mateusz Skrzypiec who will be responsible for documentation of the visit to Japan and he will also create a documentary film about NOMADIC WOMAN trip and Louise Fontains life-story.

NOMADIC WOMAN was strongly inspired by the meeting between Polish dancer/performer Katarzyna Pastuszak and the Greenlandic/Norwegian artist/storyteller Louise Fontain that took place in within the international project “Corners of Europe” in which both artists participated in 2011. Following this meeting Louise Fontain and Katarzyna Pastuszak have started close artistic collaboration and already in January 2012 they developed together a performance entitled “Galskapens kraft” presented with the Villkvinneseminaret in Mosjøen (Norway). Louise Fontains “nomadic” life story started in Greenland from which she was sent as a child to a foster family in Denmark and after years of exile and violence returned to herself in the North of Norway in the environment of nature and within the community sami culture. The project was realised with the support of Cultural Scholarship of the Gdansk City Council. The realisation of the project was made possible thanks to the help of Club Zak. Special thanks go to „Corners of Europe”, Chris Torch, Louise Fontain and Hege Dalen.
