Fetish.wtf is a powerful and energetic performance that combines dance, live music, video and theatre.
Performance Fetish.wtf takes the audience on a ride in a world of various contemporary fetishes. The performance asks questions about how objects and ideas become a fetish and also how contemporary myths are created around our contemporary fetishes. Contemporary myths about power, abundance, happiness, fulfilment, truth etc., often perpetuate the existence of certain ideas and strengthen the supposedly immense power of objects that fetishisers use. But isn’t it all just part of globalised consumerist culture and global market? What part do we play in this game of fetishes and myths that support them? Can we survive in our contemporary world without becoming a fetish too?
Fetish.wtf was created for the 10th anniversary of Amareya Theatre (2003-2013). Three dancers/performers from Amareya Theatre worked together with actress/director Dorota Androsz and a musician/composer Joanna Duda. The outcome is a work, which aims at discussing the concept of a fetish – a thing/object that has inner power. The performance is a journey through a world inhabited by various symbolic and material fetishes. It is also an attempt to critically discuss the problem of how the human body is objectified and treated as a fetish in the contemporary world.
